Grant Amount

Students who are eligible for the YFU Legacy Grant will receive a $1,000 discount on their program tuition.

Eligibility

  • The YFU Legacy Grant (formerly the Community Grant) is available to the children, grandchildren, or siblings of YFU alumni, as well as the children and grandchildren of volunteers, host families, and YFU staff members. Participants of YFU's Virtual Exchange program are also eligible. To qualify for the Grant, volunteers, and host families must have hosted and/or volunteered with YFU for a combined 3-month period prior to the grantee’s departure. Hosting and/or volunteer participation does not have to be within the departure year of the student.

  • Open to students applying to any YFU program.

  • Grant will be awarded to all qualifying students upon acceptance to YFU program and verification of Grant eligibility.

  • Year and semester students must hold a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, summer students must maintain a minimum of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to be considered eligible.

Scholarship Covers

  • Round-trip international airline travel

  • Round-trip domestic airline travel

  • Placement with a carefully selected host family

  • Regional orientation for scholarship recipients and parents

  • Preparatory materials

  • Support services in host country

  • Comprehensive Insurance

Grant Recipients are Responsible for

  • Passport

  • Visa fees (if necessary)

  • Any excess luggage tariffs

  • Personal spending money

  • Upon returning home, scholarship winners are expected to complete at least one presentation in their school or community to share their experiences, teach others about the culture in their host country, and encourage other students to participate in foreign exchange.

  • Tuition balance not covered by scholarship is due two weeks after award notification

  • Grant programs are subject to change or cancellation without prior notice.
