Aya’s Story
Open the World for Tomorrow’s Leaders This GivingTuesday
On this GivingTuesday, you can help young people step into a world of possibilities and lead it. Students like Aya El Kandoussi from Morocco are proof of what your support makes possible.
Aya dreamed of being a trailblazer. In 2024, she became one of only 20 Moroccan students to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange Scholarship, a program with a 3% acceptance rate across 35 countries.
On YFU’s Life Exchanged: Stories of Understanding podcast, Aya shared:
“My dream was the biggest thing I owned in my life. I wanted a story—a personal experience that would influence people and create a positive impact in my community. I wanted to be the first change in my community, where we had no exchange students before.”
Her journey wasn’t without challenges. When her first host family wasn’t the right fit, Aya advocated for herself, embraced new friendships, and eventually found a second host family who welcomed her with open arms.
