Rolf Olofsson Scholarship for US-Sweden Understanding

Scholarship Amount

One $10,000 scholarship for an American student to study for a full academic year program in Sweden. Students may choose from the academic or music programs, but are responsible for the remainder of the balance. Please visit the Sweden page for programs and tuition costs.

Eligibility

  • 1 partial year scholarship for students to be placed in Sweden.

  • Students must have a 3.0 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

  • Only US citizens may apply.

Applicants must meet the age requirements defined on the Sweden country page.

  • Student must demonstrate financial need; please see link to the FACTS application. FACTS is an independent, third party that assesses student eligibility for tuition assistance. For information about FACTS and the application process, please download the FACTS Information Sheet.

$75 Nonrefundable YFU Application Fee (paid directly to YFU)

Scholarship Covers

  • Round-trip international airline travel

  • Round-trip domestic airline travel

  • Placement with a carefully selected host family

  • Regional orientation for scholarship recipients and parents

  • Preparatory materials

  • Support services in host country

  • Comprehensive Insurance

Scholarship Recipients are Responsible for

  • Passport

  • Visa fees (if necessary)

  • Any excess luggage tariffs

  • Personal spending money

  • Tuition balance not covered by scholarship

  • Upon returning home, scholarship winners must submit a thank you letter for the scholarship, as well as a post-program report and photos detailing the impact the exchange experience.

Orientation

Scholarship winners will attend the National Pre-Departure Orientation along with their local orientation.

Notes

  • All applicants will be notified of their status (via email) in April.

  • The flight purchased for this program is a roundtrip ticket and therefore students flights may not be rearranged to include any other destinations other than their departure gate and Sweden.

  • Scholarship programs are subject to change or cancellation without prior notice.
