Scholarship Amount

This is a full scholarship which covers 100% of tuition.

Tuition Includes

  • Regional orientation for scholarship recipients and parents

  • Support services in the host country

  • Japan-specific orientation (if going to Japan)

Eligibility

At least one parent of applicant must be on the payroll of Chevron at the time students are selected for the award in April. Previous recipients are not eligible.

Age Requirements

Applicants must meet the age requirements defined on individual country pages.

Scholarship Recipients are Responsible for

  • Passport

  • Visa fees (if necessary)

  • Any excess luggage tariffs

  • Required overseas medical insurance (many insurance policies will cover students while traveling abroad)

  • Personal spending money

  • Upon returning home, participants are expected to complete at least one presentation in their school or community to share their experiences, teach others about the culture in their host country, and encourage other students to participate in foreign exchange.

  • Within one month of returning home, the student must provide a report and photos detailing their exchange experience to Chevron.

This scholarship is open to children of employees of Chevron. At least one parent of the applicant must be on the payroll of Chevron at the time students are selected for the award in April. Previous recipients are not eligible. It is available to U.S. citizens.

The scholarship covers round-trip international and domestic airline travel, placement with a carefully selected host family, pre-departure orientation for scholarship recipients and parents, preparatory materials, 24/7 support services in the host country, and comprehensive insurance. If the student is going to Japan, they will also receive Japan-specific orientation.

Applicants must complete an online application, secure one teacher recommendation, write a letter to their future host family, respond to three short answer essay questions, pay a non-refundable $10 application fee (payable to YFU), provide a health certificate, parent-student agreement, five candid photos, and one passport-sized photo.

Scholarship recipients are responsible for obtaining a passport, covering visa fees if necessary, any excess luggage tariffs, required overseas medical insurance, and personal spending money. Upon returning home, scholarship winners are expected to complete at least one presentation in their school or community to share their experiences and promote cultural exchange. Within one month of returning home, the student must provide a report and photos detailing their exchange experience to be shared with Chevron.
