Exchange Students In Your School

International students studying at your school are an added benefit of exchange. These students bring other cultures into your classroom and community. They help you and those around you learn about other people, places, and perspectives. When you accept a YFU exchange student into your school, your students will gain an international perspective that could never be found in a textbook.

YFU Exchange Students

  • Are between 15-18 years old
  • Are from one of more than 60 countries
  • Are either here for an academic year (arriving in August) or semester (arriving in August or January)
  • Live with a carefully screened volunteer host family in your community
  • Have English language proficiency and receive good grades
  • Are carefully selected through a rigorous application process
  • Participate in preparatory orientations before coming to the USA
  • Participate in local post-entry orientations throughout their exchange
  • Have their own spending money
  • Have their own medical insurance
  • Will become a member of your school, host family and community
  • Receive ongoing support in the US from their local volunteer representative
